Last morning I was reading a passage from 2 Kings 19 and my eyes fell on verses 10-11: “Say this to Hezekiah king of Judah: Don’t let your God deceive you by promising that Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of Assyria. Look, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries: they destroyed them completely. Will you be rescued?…”
The king of Assyria sent threats of all kinds against king Hezekiah to weaken his resolve and cause him to cave in to fear and crumble before the enemy (namely the King of Assyria in this passage). I smiled when I saw these verses. “What a loud, blatant lie!!”, I thought! “Don’t let YOUR GOD deceive you?!” I found myself speaking to my mind: “My God is not a liar, He is a promise keeping God, He is forever faithful!”
Yet last evening, when I was praying, weariness and heaviness overtook me. I felt like I was backed against a wall. I found the enemy whisper this very lie he whispered to Hezekiah through the King of Assyria…”Don’t let YOUR GOD deceive you by promising…”, “Look, see the physical situation around you! It is hopeless!!! There is NO way you are going to win this! Give up and surrender! Do you not see how I, the enemy, have taken so many people captive at this stage in their lives? Do you not see how many people have given up after falling to the ground? You are defeated! Your God is not going to come to your rescue! Really? Will you be rescued? Dream on, Helga!” I found myself pushing with all my might in my weary state of mind to declare that God is faithful and promise keeping, but I must admit, I was too tired to barely form words.
Hezekiah, when he was backed against a wall by the powerful Assyrian forces, did not cave in to fear (the Assyrians were the most powerful nation in the region at that time). In verse 14, we read, “Hezekiah took the letter from the hands of the messengers, read it, then went up to the Lord’s temple, and spread it out before the Lord. Then Hezekiah prayed before the Lord: Lord God of Israel who is enthroned above the cherubim, You are God- YOU ALONE- of ALL the kingdoms of the earth.“
Interestingly, the name Hezekiah means “YAHWEH STRENGTHENS”!! Hezekiah turned to the Lord. Although the king acknowledged in his prayer to the Lord that the enemy was more powerful than him, he declared that GOD is MUCH MORE powerful than the enemy. The Lord encouraged him with His promises of annihilating the Assyrian army.
The Lord kept what He had promised. The Lord did NOT disappoint him.
In 2 Kings 19:35 we read, “That night (when everyone was sleeping) the angel of the Lord went out and struck down 185.000 in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the NEXT MORNING- there were all DEAD BODIES!”
Oh when we turn to God and cry out in prayer, God employs Heaven on our behalf-we can lie down and rest and sleep in peace at night (Psalm 4:8), because He is at work! Hallelujah! I declare the enemy’s work in your life as dead and defeated in Jesus’ Name! I declare that NO weapon of the enemy formed against you will prosper in Jesus’ Name! God has your backs. You may be backed against a wall, you may be down and defeated today. You may feel like there is no strength left. But the Lord declares to you today that He is with you in this.
When you are weak, you are strong, for God works in you!
Oh do not give in to the lies of the enemy. Do not be discouraged by what you see. The Lord is employing Heaven on your behalf! He is coming to your rescue. Keep those spiritual hands raised to Jesus and declare in your hearts, mind, spirit: “YOU, Jesus, are God ALONE! YOU are God over our lives. YOU are God over my dead situation. You will come to my rescue! I believe this and this I declare. Back off enemy. Take your hands off me and my household in Jesus’ Name. Take your hands off my finances in Jesus’ Name. Take your hands off my hopeless situation in Jesus Name.”
I am SO excited for the breakthroughs the Lord is bringing your way! Praying over you today for God to release His spirit of encouragement and perseverance for you in this season of waiting. Praying for Him to release His ministering angels to you. Oh put on the mantel of praise as you press on. Keep praising Him. Continue to place yourselves in His Hands willingly and obediently. Hold on to the promises He has given you for your situation- hold on to that Rhema word (God’s Word given by Him to you for your specific season/ situation) and speak it out aloud .
2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
On this blessed hope I rest and press on and so can you in the Name above ALL Names: JESUS! Shalom, Helga
